Spring in Yellowstone

Spring in Yellowstone — A Quiet Look Back

It is hard to believe it has been a year since my trip to Yellowstone—and a year since I retired.

Spring in Yellowstone is a season of renewal. As winter loosens its grip, the landscape begins to awaken. Bears emerge from their dens with cubs in tow, bison calves—often called "red dogs" for their rusty-orange coats—appear across the valleys, and wildlife activity increases with each passing day.

The early mornings remain some of my favorite memories.

Driving through the park before sunrise, long before the first light reaches the mountain peaks, there is a stillness that is difficult to describe. You can almost hear the quiet. If you have ever been there, you know exactly what I mean.

Each day felt like an adventure. I never knew what might be waiting around the next bend in the road—a grazing bison, a distant bear, a Moose standing in the golden light, or simply a beautiful landscape bathed in the soft light of morning. I arrived each day with no expectations other than to be present and enjoy whatever Yellowstone chose to reveal.

That sense of wonder stayed with me throughout the trip

Looking back now, I realize Yellowstone was more than a destination. It was a reminder of why I am drawn to nature in the first place—the anticipation, the discovery, and the privilege of witnessing wild places on their own terms.

I cannot wait to return.

Photographs capture a moment in time, but Yellowstone is an experience. If you would like to see more of the wildlife, landscapes, and quiet moments that made this journey so memorable, the video from my Yellowstone trip is below.
